Originally from Christiansburg, Virginia, Jiyun graduated from Harvard College in 2016. As a MedServe Fellow, she served at Advance Community Health in Raleigh, NC as a Limited-scope Medical Assitant and Community Health Worker. Since entering medical school, Jiyun has been passionate about underserved primary care medicine and became a Kenan Rural Primary Care Medical Scholar and Pisacano Scholar. With Sanjay Batish, MD, Jiyun created the Firearms Related Incidents from Gun Shows (FiRInGS) study and won a $50,000 grant. This study will evaluate the temporal association between regional gun shows and firearm events. Jiyun is pursuing an MBA to gather more perspective on the broader healthcare system and a toolkit to solve system-level problems. She put her new skills to work with Aledade, an Accountable Care Organization contractor, to support NC community health centers in transforming to value-based care. Following the completion of family medicine residency, Jiyun dreams of practicing full-spectrum family medicine while being a Chief Medical Officer of a network of rural, community health centers.
