Sara brings to the MedServe team a background in education and non-profit work. Prior to joining MedServe, Sara led the Alumni Impact work for Teach For America - Eastern North Carolina. Preceding TFA, Sara served as Community Liaison with NC STEM Community Collaborative where she worked with communities to design innovative solutions to address STEM education and workforce development challenges. As a TFA alumni herself, Sara devleoped a passion for youth leadership development while teaching elementary school and serving as the Personnel Director for YMCA Camp Cheerio in Roaring Gap, NC. She also has served as the Director of Development at the Public School Forum of North Carolina, an education/public policy think tank.
As a native of rural Eastern North Carolina, Sara was drawn to MedServe because of the opportunity to support and encourage the next generation of primary care providers in underserved communities in which healthcare professionals are so desperately needed. Sara holds an undergraduate degree in Elementary Education and Art History from Wake Forest University and a graduate degree in Developmental Psychology from Columbia University Teachers College.
When Sara isn’t working you will find her gardening in her yard in Durham or traveling. She also loves a good book, live music and trying new recipes!
