Matthews Free Clinic
Matthews Free Clinic is a non-profit free clinic funded by grants, private donations and fundraisers that provides free, quality healthcare to low income, uninsured patients in Mecklenburg and Union Counties. This clinic relies on medical and non-medical volunteers to carry out their mission of serving the community. Matthews Free Clinic is not a walk in clinic, but instead they have their patients go through a new patient screening prior to receiving the primary care to verify they meet residential and financial requirements. With the support of their volunteers the clinic is able to offer acute and chronic primary care, gynecology, cardiology and pulmonology related services, orthopedic, chiropractic and acupuncture serves, physical therapy, behavior health services, nutrition counseling, smoking cessation, educational sessions and much more.
Matthews Free Clinic will have their Fellow function as a medical scribe and limited scope medical assistant for their primary clinical role involving enrollment and quality improvement. They will be a care coordinator and an outreach worker for the community health role. Strong writing skills are needed for this fellowship position and Spanish language competency is not a requirement.
