Cherokee Indian Hospital
Cherokee Indian Hospital is located in Cherokee among the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains. The core purpose of the hospital is to better the next seven generations of the Eastern Band of the Cherokee Indians through relationship based quality healthcare. The mission of the Cherokee Indian Hospital states that they want to be the partner of choice for their community by providing accessible, patient and family centered quality healthcare while responsibly managing the tribe's resources. Some unique programs the hospital offers include an eye clinic, physical therapy/wound care, and a strong focus on diabetes management including their Healthy Heart Initiative which aims to prevent the complications of diabetes.
The Fellow placed at Cherokee Indian will become a member of the patient and family centered medical team by serving multiple clinical and community roles. For the clinical portion, the Fellow will serve as a medical assistant focused as a physical therapy aid, with the potential for becoming a medical scribe and health coach. In the community role, the Fellow will serve as a community health worker and an informatics focused quality improvement analyst.
