The mission of Care Ring is to empower individuals with limited resources to establish and maintain good health. They envision a community that promotes, protects and improves the health and wellbeing of all people. Care Ring offers primary care for people with modest resources, community health nursing and comprehensive healthcare for people most in need. Through the Low-Cost Clinic they provide high-quality preventive care to 2,600 uninsured and underinsured neighbors. For the first time Care Ring offers home visitation for at-risk moms. A network of 1,600 volunteer health professionals donate dignified care through one of their programs, Physicians Reach Out.
Care Ring will have their MedServe Fellow function as a limited-scope medical assistant with general office duties, medical records management and many other tasks. In the community role they'll be a Spanish-language interpreter and community health worker with the Physicians Reach Out (PRO) Program. This clinic serves a very economically underserved population (including homeless populations) and there are lots of opportunities for community engagement volunteer work around the main role (current Fellow teaches reproductive health to teen girls in an underserved neighborhood). PRO Program engages lots of specialty physicians to supplement primary care.
