Benson Area Medical Center
Benson Area Medical Center (BAMC) is a community-owned non-profit that has been designated as a Rural Health Center by North Carolina. BAMC is led by Dr. Maynard who grew up in NC and is particularly passionate about geriatrics, diabetes care, quality improvement, health maintenance, and healthcare policy. The practice was recently featured on PBS for its work to provide cost-effective, high-quality care and increase primary care access in rural North Carolina. Check it out here. BAMC has been involved in multiple innovative programs, like its pilot of Physician Care Direct, a program designed to give access to care to individuals who don’t qualify for other assistance are enrolled into a club membership giving them access to care for about the monthly cost of a cell phone. For the past 11 years, BAMC has also conducted primary health care services including immunizations are provided for nearly 300 farm workers in collaboration with the NC Farm Workers’ Project. BAMC has a history of incorporating learners, including health students from nearby Campbell University.
