Advance Community Health, SE Raleigh
Advance Community Health is a not-for-profit community health center that sees its mission as eliminating barriers to healthcare for the communities it serves. To do that, they’ve provided impressive wrap-around services for their patients. Not only do they provide a crucial primary care resource, but they also have expanded to provide dental, behavioral health counseling, substance abuse counseling, diabetes education, and assistance with prescriptions – in short, anything that represents a barrier to health for their patients. Advance Community Health is the site of a Healthcare for the Homeless program that has been helping Raleigh community members since 1987. It has grown since then from a mobile van to a fully integrated part of clinical operations at Advance’s Southeast Raleigh site. Their program has received recognition and grant support from the Department of Health and Human Services to be able to expand further into the Raleigh homeless population. Outreach is a cornerstone of what makes Advance great advocates – they go right to where their patients are, including Raleigh’s homeless shelters.
Advance Community Health believes you can make a difference in their community! You will play an integral part in clinic operations and community outreach through activities like medical assistant work (e.g. taking vitals, obtaining a brief history) & outreach supporting either the clinic’s Healthcare for the Homeless program or its outreach efforts into low income housing communities in Raleigh.
